about

Richard Donald spits a fierce 54 bars over Drake's popular track, "5 am in Toronto."

lyrics

It’s like I’m tired of the halftimes and timeouts
from people saying things that they really aren’t about.

What happened to keeping it real?
It seems that the plastic has replaced the steel.
And now the youth feels that they’ve got to keep up
with trends and influences that keep them corrupt.
“We smoking them blunts, and sippin that sizz,
poppin’ them mollies, but we are just kids...”
It’s 5am in Hollywood and I’m feeling kinda good
watch the sunrise, fall asleep because I probably should.

How many of you really started at the bottom?
...made it through the first round of family problems?
...made it past the government traps inside of Gotham?
...to spray paint the truth against these walls before they caught him?

I look around and watch them idolize the fame,
vitalize the game. Young impressionable brains -
all packed in single file lines into the train
with one stop; The destination: Driving you insane.
I served two years of a lifetime sentence
of working 9 to 5 at a bank without a pension,
answering the telephones, absorbing all the tension
of people who were sold a home they can’t afford the rents in.
How is a man to take pride in his work,
when his line of work keeps him fuckin’ lying in the dirt?
...keep him lying to his friends, and breaking down the unity
of neighbors, friends, economy, community?

A New World Order...I can tell it’s soon to be
all erect in place with your help if you choose to be
silent on the sidelines, cheering how it “used to be...”
“Power to the people!” has been taken down beautifully.

We sit quietly, a safe distance from another.
But I can tell we’re brothers because Africa’s our mother.
And America’s our sister getting raped by the Mister,
but we get so distracted by the glow of motion pictures.

It’s like we live in a science fiction story,
where we laugh about the issues like an episode of Maury.
Where the moral of the story has never been revealed,
so we live a life of reruns unaware of what’s real
unless its packaged in an entertaining format.
Read between the lines of subtext inside of Borat.
Rappers advertise nite clubs, “Where da whores at?”
But this world is much more than
the things we find important.

My family was imported from West African ports and
shackled by their ankles forced to labor by extortion.
Generations later, we’re still shackled up in courts and
murdering ourselves with cocaine and abortions.

Prescriptions that we write for ourselves, we self-medicate.
We try to rise above by getting high, that’s how we levitate.
The product brings us down, that’s the subject, not the predicate.
Focus on your breathing. Clear your mind and just meditate.
Take a drink of water, feel your cellulars respirate.
Fluoride in the water, man, we really should investigate.
Messing with genetics of the foods that we love to taste,
really has me wondering which freedoms are they next to take?
